Dipole patterns in tropical precipitation were pervasive across landmasses throughout Marine Isotope Stage 5

چکیده
Abstract Most of Earth’s rain falls in the tropics, often highly seasonal monsoon rains, which are thought to be coupled inter-hemispheric migrations Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone response cycle insolation. Yet characterization tropical rainfall behaviour geologic past is poor. Here we combine new and existing hydroclimate records from six large-scale regions with fully independent model-based reconstructions across last interval sustained warmth ensuing climate cooling between 130 70 thousand years ago (Marine Isotope Stage 5). Our data-model approach reveals heterogeneous patterns changes climate. We note pervasive dipole-like precipitation patterns, as well different loci throughout Marine 5 than recorded Holocene. These cannot solely attributed meridional shifts Zone.

INTERANNUAL VARIATIONS OF TROPICAL PRECIPITATION PATTERNS by
Seasonal and annual precipitation anomalies, normalized with respect to the standard deviations are computed for stations between 30*S and 30N. It is established that the annual anomalies are normally distributed. Spatially averaged anomalies are computed for various regions and their representativeness confirmed. Correlations between the annual average normalized anomalies of the various regio...

متن کاملPersistent suborbital climate variability in marine isotope stage 5 and termination II
New surface water records from two high sedimentation rate sites, located in the western subtropical North Atlantic near the axis of the Gulf Stream, provide clear evidence of suborbital climate variations through marine isotope stage (MIS) 5 persisting even into the w -arm peak of the interglaciation (substage 5e). We found that the amplitude of suborbital climate oscillations did not vary sig...
متن کاملStatistical modeling of the association between pervasive precipitation anomalies in Southern Alburz and global ocean-atmospheric patterns
Precipitation patterns are influenced by many factors, such as global atmospheric circulations to name but one. Precipitation patterns in Iran have always had great fluctuations even in a smaller scale like the Alburz Mountain Range. The present research has tried to find the relationship between global atmospheric patterns and the pervasive precipitation ones in Alburz. For doing so, 17 climat...
